Magnesium: Why Is It So Important?

By: Karl Zarse, MD

Magnesium is all over the news lately and it is for good reason. It has a wide range of benefits that are critical for the immune system as well as other underappreciated benefits.

Many people do not realize that Magnesium is ESSENTIAL for proper vitamin d absorption and function. So even if you are taking plenty of vitamin D, you will not get the benefit of it without magnesium.

On top of that, studies estimate that up to 50% of Americans may not get enough in their diets. It is near impossible to get enough Magnesium with diet alone.

Magnesium is essential for good bone health. You want to benefit from that resistance training you are doing by laying down stronger bones, and magnesium does exactly that.

It exerts a calming effect and helps with getting a great night’s sleep. Combine it with Melatonin as we did with our pm dose of ImmuneX2, and you will see even more benefits.

It also is a mood stabilizer. Multiple studies have shown that individuals who supplement with Magnesium showed a significant reduction in anxiety and depression after six weeks. What a great benefit for today’s world.

I could add more but this should be plenty to motivate you to get started. I recommend taking 400 mg per day, 1-3 hours before bed with Melatonin, and you will see tremendous benefit from adding this to your routine.
