EMPOWERING YOU TO LIVE A VIBRANT, ACTIVE LIFE THAT OUTSHINES CHRONIC PAIN

Be Proactive, Not Reactive

Be Proactive Not Reactive

By: Karl Zarse, MD

Everybody wants to live a long and healthy life. I have had the benefit of treating patients for twenty years now, and I have seen what truly sets the healthy aging person as opposed to those that don’t.

The healthy people take a constant proactive approach their health.  They focus on their nutrition, they focus on resistance training combined with a flexibility program, they have a regular cardio routine, and they are always trying to improve on a regular basis. It’s the consistency over time that gives them a 1% improvement on a steady basis, and with each small gain they make huge strides over those that don’t.

Then there’s the reactive group. By the time age starts showing symptoms, it’s not too late, but it’s much harder to reverse.  We don’t feel symptoms like shortness of breath, fragile bones leading to fractures, and the symptoms of arthritis until we are far down the road and a lot of function has been lost.

I have had a ton of patients look at me and say, “I wish I would have done things differently”. They underestimated how much of their life was going to be spent in pain and deconditioned.

The fundamental difference between the two groups is the proactive group spends the last 3-5 years at the end of their life struggling, the unhealthy spends the last 25 years struggling.

It’s worth it to be proactive.  Follow the lessons on this site and that’s all you need to do to age fit.
